+ From Beneath Your Sky + by ShePaintsWithBlood + From Beneath Your Sky + by ShePaintsWithBlood
From a few weeks ago. A painting I did both for my art book and as a present to someone very dear to me.

I know it may seem extremely one sided. I have a weakness for pictures depicting the character off at an extreme corner however I am not sure I always pull the concept off very well myself. I fear that when people look at this, they are just going to see, 'Obnoxious orange glowy skies and...oh wait, is that something in the corner there? I could not tell with all the ridiculous, eye piercing ORANGE everywhere!"
But if there is one thing I cannot totally take the blame for it is all the orange. Oracello is a hot, orange world and no manner of sunglasses, or sunscreen, can save you from that fact.

On a sidenote, I really want to get better at drawing dragon feet because they are some of my favourite kind of feet ever but I am really not accomplished at them.

Time: 12 + hours
Tools: Watercolour on canvas
Reference: None

This painting is bloodmarked and copyright to Aria '51' Keehn, ShePaintsWithBlood (me) Thank you for looking.:blackrose:

This is so beautiful! I love the colors, and the dragon is done really well. I can't draw any kind of feet, so sorry if I can't help you with the dragon feet.  Don't worry about the amount of orange. It looks great!

I love this piece. Might even be one of my favorite to date. The blend of colors really seems to push that dragon and bring him to life. The smooth flow in the spine of the dragon really shows his slithering movement. Absolutely amazing and really makes me want to kick my dragons to keep pace with this quality.

This is just gorgeous! I love the colors you used, and they really make the black dragon stand out against them.

I've wondered for a while, what exactly is it you do when bloodmarking a piece? I'm sure this is where your username comes from, but I've been curious about it because I don't think I've ever actually read on your dA what that is.

On a side note, I think your dragon feet are awesome.

Don't worry about the fact that you put the character in a corner. I think it looks cool, and it is actually what I like most about this painting. Red is also my favorite color and there is a lot of that in this painting!
well... I'm gonna go now and, paint my second acrylic drawing in my LIFE!

I really like the way you off-set your characters to one side or the corners. Very often they're looking out into the rest of the image which draws the viewer's eye out that way as well... it sort of inspires the unspoken question of, "What are they looking at?" So, we follow their gaze to see what has their attention. :)

I love the way you include smaller details in both your characters (such as skulls) and into your larger backgrounds (the gears and such).

Btw... been meaning to ask, when you say that your painting is 'bloodmarked' do you mean that you've pricked your finger and left your mark on it? If something to that effect... what first gave you the idea to do that? :) I've been very curious since it's even your screen name.

I absolutely love this <3 I've always loved your swirly skies and I love how the brightness of it contrasts with the dark dragon creature. It almost feels like we're following him through the skies :)

You worry too much. <3 I think a picture can also be more interesting if the character isn't centered but in a corner. It makes you look at the environment easier. Also, the colors make a nice contrast, so even though the character is at the corner, you can see it clearly as part of the scene because it's a dark creature on a bright light background.

By the way I adore that little dragon, especially his legs and feet! (I'll just refer to the dragon as him for now.) The legs and feet look so fragile and nice and remind me of bird feet. Which is great because I love dragons with bird legs, like the Chinese dragon. Of course, if you want to give it reptile feet, I'm very sure there's anatomy studies about these too. A little practice, and you'll learn it quickly.

Also, I love that name Oracello. I have so much troubles coming up with names, I don't even have name for my yarnling yet. xD Sometimes perfect names pop up, sometimes the ideas remain silent and unreachable.

The glowing orange and other warm tones is something I love about this picture too! Recently, I thought about what season I'd be if I was a season and I quickly realized it's probably autumn because of these colors (and weathers lol).

Aww thank you so much! I am glad you like the layout with him being off to the side too. And yes, I am pretty sure this dragon is a him (at least...I painted it as a him, haha)

Thank you about the feet too! I do actually like giving them bird feet and that is where I take inspiration from. Next time I find a poor bird that has passed away I think I will look into preserving its lovely feet for reference.

Oracello has been around for a long time for me, I cannot even remember when the name came to me but I think I was probably about 15 or so and it has always been one of my favourite places to paint. Names are so hard, I usually have to wait for the creation to tell me what its name is because I suck at naming things as well.

Oh goodness I so agree about you being Autumn! You are definitely an Autumnling! I am a Springling, haha. I always feel that Autumn and Spring have a strange connection too so that is perfect!:blackose:

I love spring and autumn equally, actually! After a too cold winter I look forward to seeing fresh green plants coming back to life and days getting warmer (I also noticed I get excited about seeing caterpillars haha). After the burning summer I look forward to cooler days and these awesome warm colors. Also when I feel unwatched I'd kick any piles of fallen autumn leaves like a little child. xD I love the sounds and texture of dried autumn leaves. Sometimes I even collect some and decorate my rooms with them.
