Contest entry for :iconstormofshadows: Antler Dragon Contest.
This dragon's antlers were based on my favourite breed of deer, the Bush Antlered deer. (not much is available about them online for some reason. I got my ref from an old encyclopedia called "Our Magnificent Wildlife") I feel like my details are extremely messy here...hmm...I need to work on that. And on wings (my wings look so flat) By the way, the back of the wings are fleshy and white, the insides are black and feathered. Please not that I added the forehead antlers and the lower set beneath the main sets. Bush Antlered Deer do not have these. The set based on said deer are the main set beneath the ears.

The dragon seems to be trying to impress the small doe (or buck? It does have antlers.) With his rack. Being that he is fairly young it is not at its full and impressive size yet. Also, he has been rubbing on the old windmill so there is velvet hanging off the antlers. The deer seems terribly amused, but possibly...maybe a bit attracted. How sweet.

Time: Probably over ten hours...I lost track.
Tools: 0.5 mm mech pencil for sketch, watercolour, liquid metallic acrylics, white acrylic, and a tiny bit of coloured pencil which I painted over.

This drawing and the blood are copyright © ShePaintsWithBlood, Aria (me) Thank you so much for looking. :blackrose:

No worries. I thought of it too when I typed that.
Haha yes, they would make a fun couple. Like lettuce and a carrot I picture. Thank you so much! Thank wings were a high aggravation. It is amusing because you can see that with every set of wings, one looks decent, and on the other side its twin looks like a mess.:blackrose:

oh that is great. youv got this contest in the bag.
love it
Of course.

I used Comic Board. Sadly...I can no longer find that size and I think that was pretty much my last piece (without erasing sketches off other pieces ) I have just bought some new comic board that is 11 x17 inches however it is much more flimsy. I am testing it out with paint at the moment actually. If you do not mind a smaller canvas I would get silver comic boards because they are smooth and can be painted on without crinkling up much.:blackrose:
