Custom Crow Cover for Moleskine Book by ShePaintsWithBlood Custom Crow Cover for Moleskine Book by ShePaintsWithBlood
A custom book cover I built for a recent client. It was made to hold his Moleskine sketchbooks so that they would have a more substantial and protective backing. The inside features two pockets for sliding the books into and holds them quite securely.

I apologize that I do not have a fancier photo of it. I really regret not taking any of the inside.

P.S. My commissions are currently closed until at least August. However, if you would like to know the process of getting a custom book or cover to hold your current sketchbooks (covers are reusable) you can feel free to ask preferably by emailing me at ShePaintsWithBlood@hotmail.com

Time: 15+ hours (probably more like twenty for the total construction)
Tools: Book board, comic board, printed canvas, thread gears and other metal pieces. Watercolur and watercolour ground
Reference: A few for the crow and spider.

This piece is bloodmarked and copyright to Aria '51' Keehn ShePaintsWithBlood (me) 2013 Thank you for looking! :blackrose:

This is absolutely beautiful! I had found your journals a long time ago, and wondered if you would ever make anymore so you can imagine how excited I was to find more of your work in my messages today :D I usually hate giving complete 5 star critiques.. but I just can't find any flaw in this, the only flaw there might be would be how well the cover will actually work. As for the actual art... perfect.

My first thought upon seeing this was.. there must definitely be a story behind this, seeing a crow and a spider together just kind of makes me wonder what is really going on here. When I looked at it again I started noticing all the little details.. it kind of makes me think that the black outer layer is the real book cover, and the inner part is supposed to represent the cover burning off and revealing the interesting stories and sketches inside. It's almost as if the crow and spider are teasing daring us to take a peak. I wish I could see what the inside looks like, and what kind of art will be put into it over the years!
What do you think?

I absolutely love this, maybe one day I'll get in contact with you about one. :) crows are my favorite bird, and I think you did a magically magnificent job on this. :)

Your ability to make your designs come to life with every element you weave is just magical. Something like this is a truly precious gift. I am once again awed by your works.

Oh man, I love crows! And I love the style you draw them! There's something extra mysterious about this one this picture. I'm also fond of its silver eye. The spider turned out very good too, I like its dynamic leg poses.

I like the little details at the right too, the white part that shows signs and symbols of both clocks and music, very nice! But I especially like the whole clock gears on the cover, with that whole clock on the bottom. How did you make these? Are these glued pieces, prints, or painted? Either way I love the metallic look of them all!

Forgot to mention I like the metallic.. edge-protecting things on the left, at the top and bottom. I don't know what they're called. But it's one of my fav things about a fancy book cover.

When this came up on my screen-and I am home alone-I said, out loud...

"Oh, now that's frickin' brilliant!"

What more to say?

This is really amazing. The idea I think is worthy of attention :D As well as performance. I may not know anything about this, but I know for sure that I would not know how to do something like that x3
