Finished commission for ~eirias

Sorry for taking so long to post...this was actually my second attempt at the picture itself as the first one failed epically.

Again, this paper is fighting me a bit so I am very sorry for the way the shading might look so blurry. I am trying really hard how to learn to use oil pastels on bristol but I prefer a more absorbent paper I think.

P.S. I think my scanner is wearing out...it is adding lines and random squares to the picture now. In addition to making this look like it was drawn in Crayola knock-offs.

Time: ?
Tools: 0.5 mm mechanical pencil, oil pastels, bristol board, mineral oil, q-tips
Reference: Pose heavily inspired by an old photo of my horse and even more so by a photo by Yann Arthus-Bertrand

This drawing the blood are copyright ShePaintsWithBlood (Aria) me
Eirias is copyright to themself. :blackrose:

Thank you! I really hope you are doing well. I have not been around at all and so I feel like I have lost touch with so much here.:blackrose:

That looks like a rather tough perspective.

And about the scanner what kind of lines is it adding? I see to the left there is some line. I guess if you come across other lines, for now I would recommend just cropping them out if you can. Until I guess you can get a new scanner.

It kind of was I guess.

It is mainly that left one and then if you can see it is adding blocks of light. Some of which were over un-cropabale areas unfortunately....but yes, perhaps I should get a new one someday. Haha.:blackrose:

wow!!:wow: this is so beautiful!!:iconiloveyouplz: I love all of the texture in the wing, and the movement of the swinging tail. The color of the horse is captivating, and all the other colors that are in the horse are just amazing:faint:

You've captured the movement of the tail quite effectively here and the feathers are gorgeous! You're a natural with color too, as I see you create the essence of black with colors other than just black.

Thank you so much! I am so glad you think I work well with colour. I am trying to get out of using so much black as it can sometimes "brown out" spots in an un-satisfying way.:blackrose:

It really can. It tends to look drab, but you've managed without it very well. One of my teachers said that if you want to get a rich black, you can use indigo. It even looks darker than normal "black" when you set the two colors side by side. What I really like about this piece is that you managed to capture light with your use of color and it gives the subject a real sense of space.

This is such a lovely, fluid creature...It does seem to be falling apart, but still holds itself together. What a noble-looking, beautiful beast.

where do I begin ... the focal point for me is that wing kind of tattered and shaggy but still looking powerful enough to fly. the tail seems to be falling apart giving off some clumps of dust

seems like a couple of ribs (or maybe some other type of protrusion--horns?) coming out of its flanks

the animal seems strong but in the first stages of falling to pieces

this is a wonderful one--torn and tattered love ... is this what you're getting at?

Thank you so much! You have a wonderful way of picking out details and meanings in my work and it is really neat to read your comments because of that. :blackrose:

as always ur very welcome. i just hope i'm not reading too much into your work (i always tend to do that with other people's art, but never to my own. my art is just trying to get the images out of my head and i worry that they will mean nothing to others)
