Dance with me, around a tree
My love, come close and you may see
Though beauty shines and terrifies
We are not so different, you and I

Said a monster to a butterfly.

I guess this has become, unintentionally, my tribute for Valentine's day. Which, though I am a monster, should prove to be significantly better than many occasions past. (commas, commas, commas)

Progress Photos:

Time: 10 Hours give or take more or less
Tools: Watercolour with a touch of pastel and pearlescent powder on canvas
Reference: Leaves and foliage (obviously this failed)

This Painting is bloodmarked and copyright to Aria "51" Keehn, ShePaintsWithBlood (me) Thank you for visiting! :blackrose:

You know, I often find your "monsters" some of the most gorgeous creatures on this site...that said, the scene here seems very tender and sorrowful at the same time, and the poem accompanying this work really sets the mood as well...nicely done!

Aww thank you very much! I am glad you like my monsters, they want to be loved but like so many monsters, I am sure they get misunderstood a lot.:blackrose:
But of course! That is the sad thing about many "monsters"...especially when you think about it, compared to the vast majority of species on Earth humans are one of the more odd, "monstrous" beasts out there...

The texture of those leaves is incredible.

I'm quite shocked that watercolours works so well on canvas! Do you have to prep it a certain way?

Thank you so much <3 I am so self conscious about them...

Oh yes, I prime it first using a watercolour ground: [link] It is not near as absorbent as paper and so the technique can be a little odd...though perhaps adding more ground than I do would fix this. It can be used on other surfaces as well. Glass, metal I imagine. I think you need to abrade them first though. :blackrose:
